IKO Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
We stock and install IKO-compatible roofing and repair parts across Los Angeles, with most IKO roof repairs running $470 – $2,125 depending on what failed and how much of the roof is involved. A full IKO roof replacement in Los Angeles typically lands between $9,440 and $23,600. Most homeowners discover an IKO problem the hard way: a dark water stain creeps across the ceiling after the first real rain, or a shingle ends up in the yard after a Santa Ana wind event. If you’re reading this, you probably already suspect something above your head isn’t doing its job.
Which IKO Models This Applies To

We work on the full IKO lineup you’re likely to find on Los Angeles roofs. The big three are the Cambridge architectural line (IKO’s biggest seller, with its distinctive dual-laminate profile and what the trade calls “shadow bands”), the Dynasty line (heavier, fiberglass-reinforced, sized differently than Cambridge), and the Nordic performance line for steeper pitches and higher wind zones. If you’ve got an older roof, you may be dealing with the discontinued Aristocrat or Marathon series, and matching those takes some care because the granule blends changed between production years.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha: an IKO shingle from one series won’t necessarily match another even if the color name sounds close. “Charcoal Gray” in Cambridge and “Charcoal Gray” in Dynasty are not the same granule mix. When we match, we go by the bundle wrapper code and the shingle’s physical dimensions, not the marketing name. For OEM vs. aftermarket: IKO’s own accessories (underlayment, starter strips, hip and ridge caps) are engineered to work with their shingle profile and nail line, and we default to genuine IKO parts on IKO roofs. We’ll use a quality aftermarket component only when IKO has discontinued the piece and a clean substitute is the better call, and we’ll tell you that on the estimate so there’s no surprise.

Signs Your IKO Roofing Is Failing
- Granules in the gutter by the handful, not just a light dusting. IKO shingles shed some surface granules early in life, but heavy, persistent granule loss after the first five years usually means the asphalt mat is degrading faster than it should, often from valley heat or poor attic ventilation.
- Curling or cupping at shingle corners. In Los Angeles, the combination of intense UV on south-facing slopes and trapped heat in the attic dries the shingle’s oils, and corners lift first. Once a shingle curls, the nail line is exposed and water gets under the next course.
- Missing shingles after wind. IKO shingles have a defined nail line and a wind warranty, but a shingle pulls clean off when it was nailed outside the nail strip or set in below the adhesive’s temperature threshold during installation. One missing shingle is a repair. Missing shingles across a whole slope is a pattern.
- Dark streaks or moss at the eaves. In the marine-layer neighborhoods, like the west side or anything downhill from the 405 in the morning fog, trapped moisture at the roof edge feeds algae. It’s not structurally fatal by itself, but it means the roof isn’t drying properly, and the drip edge or starter strip is usually the original culprit.
- Ceiling stains that appear days after rain. This is the one that gets people to call. By the time water shows up on the ceiling, it has already traveled through the shingle, the underlayment, and the decking. The leak is rarely right above the stain. It’s usually uphill, following a rafter.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, the spread on IKO work comes down to scope. A targeted repair (a handful of shingles, a pipe collar, a piece of flashing) runs $470 – $2,125. A full IKO roof replacement on a typical single-story Los Angeles home sits at $9,440 – $23,600, and the range moves on four factors: square footage, roof pitch (anything over a 6:12 adds labor because the crew is roped off), number of existing layers we have to tear off, and the IKO series you choose. A Cambridge re-roof on a 1,200-square-foot ranch is at the low end. A Dynasty replacement on a steep second-story roof in the hills is at the high end.
Every estimate is a written, line-item price before any work starts. That price includes tear-off and disposal, underlayment, starter strip, the IKO shingles, hip and ridge caps if your roof has hips or ridges, all flashings, and the workmanship warranty we put on every job. If the number changes, you’ll hear it from us before we spend a dollar. You won’t discover it on the final invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things you can safely do without getting on a ladder: check your gutters for granule buildup after rain, and look at the roof from the ground with a pair of binoculars to spot missing or lifted shingles. That’s it. We don’t recommend the ladder. Roof work is genuinely dangerous, and the fact that a two-story roof in Los Angeles means a 20-plus-foot fall onto hardscape, not soft lawn. But here’s another practical reason to skip DIY: if you install an IKO shingle outside its nail line or in the wrong temperature conditions, you void the manufacturer’s wind warranty on that section, and the shingle that fails later is the one you touched. A patch that looks right but leaks costs more than the repair would have. If you want the roof checked, call (213) 632-5711 and we’ll send someone who does this every week.
FAQs

Realistically, an architectural IKO shingle (Cambridge or Dynasty) lasts 18 to 25 years in Los Angeles, with south-facing slopes wearing out 3 to 5 years faster than the rest of the roof because of UV exposure, and the 110-degree attic summers accelerating the drying of the asphalt mat.
If your roof is pushing 20 years and showing two or more of the failure signs above, skip the repair and price a replacement. Call (213) 632-5711 and we’ll walk the roof with you before recommending anything.
Yes, if the roof is under 12 to 15 years old, the damaged area is contained to one slope or one flashing point, and we can still buy the same IKO series and color. If the granules of the old shingles have faded, a patch will look obvious, and the new shingles may not seal properly against the old mat.
We’ll tell you honestly whether a repair will blend or look like a patch job, and we’ll price both options so you can decide. Estimates are free at (213) 632-5711.
A targeted repair is a same-day job in most cases, typically 2 to 3 hours including set-up and cleanup. A full IKO roof replacement on a Los Angeles home takes 2 to 5 days depending on square footage, tear-off layers, and whether we hit any decking rot that needs replacement before the new underlayment goes down.
We keep the common IKO Cambridge and Dynasty colors and the matching starter, hip, and ridge pieces stocked locally for repairs, and we order full replacement quantities per job so the dye lot matches across the entire roof. We also stock and install complementary product lines from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for full home exterior and interior projects.
If you need to know whether your exact color is on hand, call (213) 632-5711 and we’ll check while you’re on the phone.
