Boral Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you need Boral driveway pavers or replacement parts in Los Angeles, installed pricing typically runs $8,260 to $21,240 for a full paver driveway, while smaller repair work like replacing cracked units or resetting a section usually falls between $800 and $3,500. We stock Boral-compatible pavers, edge restraints, bedding sand, and joint compound on our trucks, so most repairs get priced and finished the same week. Most Los Angeles homeowners first realize something’s wrong when they spot a cracked paver, a sunken low spot that pools water after rain, or edge pavers starting to wander outward into the landscape. Isaac Pruett has seen the same failure patterns across the San Fernando Valley, the Westside, and down into Long Beach: California sun breaks down joint sand, winter rain saturates the base, and a paver that was fine for eight years suddenly isn’t.

For clarity: Mason Remodeling Co Los Angeles is an independent contracting company. We are not a Boral dealer, distributor, or affiliate, but we work with Boral pavers every week and know their sizing and series quirks better than most.

Which Boral Models This Applies To

A home office with a built-in desk and shelves

Boral’s clay and concrete paver lines sold across the U.S. market are built in a consistent set of modular dimensions. The most common Los Angeles installations use Boral’s Holland Stone, Euro Stone, and Cobble Stone profiles in 60mm (2-3/8″) thickness for driveways, or 80mm (3-1/8″) where heavier vehicles or poor subgrade demand it. If you have a Boral paver driveway, check the side of any loose unit for an embossed name or a small rectangular code stamp. No stamp visible? Measure the paver: Boral’s Holland Stone runs 4″ x 8″, Euro Stone runs 6″ x 6″ and 6″ x 12″, and Cobble Stone is a 3-piece modular system that interlocks in a repeating pattern.

The compatibility gotcha that trips up a lot of Los Angeles homeowners: Boral’s 60mm and 80mm pavers are not interchangeable in the same field. If your original driveway used 80mm units and a contractor patches a section with 60mm, the repair will settle and crack within two years because the thinner paver cannot carry the same point load. Always match thickness. The second gotcha is series discontinuity: Boral has retired certain regional color blends over the years. If you have a 15-year-old driveway in a discontinued shade, an exact color match may not exist anymore, and we’ll talk with you honestly about blending a close tone or doing a full overlay rather than a patch that looks like a checkerboard.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: Boral’s genuine pavers carry a limited product warranty for manufacturing defects. Aftermarket paver equivalents from brands like Belgard, Unilock, and Techo-Bloc are generally equal in compressive strength when you match thickness and application. For Los Angeles heat and UV exposure, we prefer clay pavers with an iron-oxide color body or concrete pavers with integral color rather than surface-only color, because surface color fades to a chalky gray after a decade of direct sun in neighborhoods like Van Nuys and Woodland Hills.

Signs Your Boral Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Cracking in a straight line across multiple pavers. This usually means the base layer under the driveway has failed, not just the paver itself. A hairline crack in a single unit might be impact damage, but a linear crack running through four, five, six pavers in a row tells us the compacted base has shifted or eroded. Water follows the crack, and it widens every year.
  • Low spots that hold water after rain. Los Angeles gets most of its rain in a few intense storms each winter, and a sunken area means the sub-base settled unevenly. This is a drainage problem as much as a cosmetic one; standing water works its way under the pavers and accelerates base erosion in a loop.
  • Joint sand washing out or disappearing. Every Boral paver driveway depends on tightly packed sand between the joints to lock the whole mat together. When you see gaps opening between pavers, the sand is failing. Left alone, pavers start shifting under tire load and the edges chip against each other.
  • Edge pavers drifting outward. Boral paver systems rely on a rigid edge restraint (usually aluminum, steel, or concrete) pinned along the perimeter. Without it, the whole field behaves like a deck of cards with no box. Pavers push outward under vehicle weight, gaps open, and the pattern loses its interlock.
  • A single loose or rocking paver. Step on it and hear a click, or see it tilt under foot pressure. This usually means the bedding sand under that unit has washed out or the unit was chipped during installation. Left alone, a rocking paver breaks at the corner, then takes its neighbors with it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

A full Boral paver driveway replacement in Los Angeles runs $8,260 to $21,240 depending on square footage, access, demolition of the old surface, and whether we need to rebuild the base. That figure includes removing the existing driveway, excavating to proper depth, compacting a Class II road base, laying and screeding bedding sand, installing your Boral pavers, cutting edge units cleanly, compacting the finished field, and sweeping in joint sand. Smaller repair scopes, like resetting a 50-square-foot sunken section or replacing a dozen cracked units, land in the $800 to $3,500 range.

What drives the price up? A long, narrow driveway in the Hollywood Hills with no staging area costs more than a flat 18-foot-wide approach in the Valley. Tree roots that need base reconstruction add cost. Steep slopes requiring more base depth and geo-grid also add cost. We deliver a written line-item price before any work starts, as we do on every project. No verbal estimates that grow on the final bill. Every completed driveway repair or replacement is covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work is not right within a year of completion, we make it right at no cost to you.

DIY or Call Us?

The honest split: if you have a few loose roof tiles on a garden path, you can safely reset pavers yourself with a bag of bedding sand and a rubber mallet. Driveways are different. A Boral driveway carries vehicle weight, and a failed base under the pavers is not something a homeowner can diagnose or rebuild with weekend tools. Compacting subgrade properly requires a plate compactor, and edge restraints installed wrong will let the whole field drift within a season.

There’s also a safety consideration that gets overlooked: a driveway with uneven pavers creates trip hazards, especially for older adults, kids running to the car, or delivery people. A rocking paver at the top of a sloped Los Angeles driveway is an accident waiting to happen. If your Boral driveway is showing cracks, sinkage, or loose edges, call (213) 632-5711 and we’ll take a look, give you a written price, and tell you exactly what’s happening under the surface.
