CGI Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you have a CGI driveway or paver surface that’s cracking, sinking, or showing edge failure, we stock the matching components and can usually have a crew out to assess it the same week you call. In Los Angeles, paver driveway repair ranges from $826 to $2,950 for spot fixes, while a full replacement runs $8,260 to $21,240 depending on square footage, base condition, and material grade. Most owners notice the problem the same way: a paver shifts underfoot near the driveway apron, water pools where it used to drain, or a corner of the paved surface starts to look “proud” compared to the rest.
We’re an independent Los Angeles contractor, not a CGI company branch, so we’ll tell you straight whether you need an OEM-match component or whether a specification-grade equivalent from Belgard, Unilock, or Techo-Bloc gets you the same look for less. Either way, you get a written price before any work starts, and the crew shows up with names and photo IDs you already have in hand.
Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI’s driveway and paver lines come in three general families: the segmented paver series (commonly 60mm and 80mm thicknesses for residential driveways), the permeable paver system designed for LA’s stormwater runoff rules, and the slab-style “large format” pavers that read more like concrete tile. The compatibility gotcha most Los Angeles homeowners hit is thickness: a 60mm paver will not interchange with an 80mm paver without redoing the bedding layer. If your existing surface is 80mm and someone sells you 60mm replacements to save a buck, you’ll be back in two years chasing sags and cracks.
To identify what you have, look for the manufacturer’s stamp on the underside of a loose paver, or measure the edge thickness with a tape. If you can’t find a stamp, a photo of the paver face and a side profile sent to us before we come out saves everyone a trip. We carry OEM-spec CGI replacement pavers where still available, plus quality aftermarket equivalents that match the face profile and color range closely enough that the repair disappears. The OEM-vs-aftermarket call depends on whether you need an exact color-batch match or can live with a 95% match at a 20 to 30% lower material cost. We’ll price both in writing and let you choose.

Signs Your CGI Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Edge pavers are drifting outward or lifting. This is almost always a missing or failing edge restraint. The plastic or aluminum edging that locks the perimeter in place breaks down or gets knocked loose by vehicle tires, and the outer course starts migrating. Once the edge goes, the rest of the surface follows.
- Water pools in the middle of the driveway after rain. Los Angeles gets a few hard downpours a year, and those are the moments that expose base compaction problems. A proper base should drain through the joints or run off the surface; standing water means the sub-base has settled or the slope was wrong from the start.
- Individual pavers are cracked or spalled on the surface. Spalling (the top face flaking off in thin sheets) is usually a material defect or freeze-thaw stress. But in LA, more often it’s point-load stress from a parked car’s tire on a paver with an uneven bedding layer beneath it.
- You feel a “thump” driving over a section that used to be solid. That’s a void under the pavers, created when the sand bedding layer washed out through an open joint or when the base material settled unevenly. Left alone, the pavers over that void will crack under load.
- Weeds or grass are poking through joints that used to be tight. Joint sand doesn’t fail by itself. When the sand goes missing, moisture and seeds get in, roots establish, and the joints widen. It starts cosmetic and becomes structural faster than most homeowners expect.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Los Angeles paver driveways, budget $8,260 to $21,240 for a complete tear-out and new installation, including base prep, sand bedding, pavers, edge restraints, and joint sand. If you’re only replacing a failed section, expect $826 to $2,950 depending on whether we’re pulling up a strip along the edge or rebuilding a whole car-parking bay. The two big variables are base condition (if the compacted aggregate base is shot, that’s excavation and rebuild cost) and the paver type you choose to match or upgrade to.
Every quote is a written, line-item price delivered before demo starts. No verbal estimates, no change orders because we “found something.” We verify base condition with a test opening during the quote, not during the job. Workmanship carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the install isn’t right within a year of completion, we fix it at no cost. Period.
| Scope | Price Range |
|---|---|

| Paver patio installation | $4,130 – $12,980 |
| Driveway replacement (any material, full demo & rebuild) | $5,900 – $16,520 |
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a few pavers is something a careful homeowner can do if the base is still solid: pry out the damaged unit, reset the bedding sand to the right depth, drop in the replacement, and re-sand the joints. What we’d say honestly is not to attempt is anything involving edge restraints, base rebuilds, or drainage correction. Once you’re pulling up more than a handful of pavers, you’re into compaction and slope territory, and getting either one wrong means redoing the whole section within a season. This isn’t high-tension spring territory where one wrong move puts you in the hospital, but it is the kind of work where one wrong base decision puts you out thousands twice.

FAQs

A properly installed paver driveway in Los Angeles typically lasts 25 to 40 years before the surface needs resetting, with the base lasting the life of the home if it was compacted correctly. What shortens that lifespan here isn’t freeze-thaw (rare in LA) but vehicle point-loading, tree roots, and water getting under the pavers through failing joints. The top-time killer we see in the Valley and across the basin is extended parking of heavy vehicles on the same two tire paths without rotating the load.
Yes, individual pavers and small sections can be pulled and reinstalled without touching the surrounding surface, provided the base beneath them is still sound. If the base has settled or washed out, repair means excavating to the aggregate layer, re-compacting, and rebuilding from there, which is effectively a spot replacement. We’ll know which one you need after we open a test area during the estimate.
A spot repair on a few failed pavers usually takes a single day, including sand and compaction. A full driveway rebuild in Los Angeles typically takes three to five working days depending on access, old base removal, and whether you choose standard or large-format pavers. We’ll put the working timeline in your written quote so you know what to expect before you sign.
We keep the most common CGI replacement pavers, matching sand, and edge restraint components on hand or available same-week from our Los Angeles suppliers. For exact color-batch matches on older installs, we may need a few extra days to source the right production run. If a perfect match isn’t available, we’ll show you the closest equivalent from Belgard, Unilock, or Techo-Bloc and price both options before you commit.
