Mr-Glass Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Mr-Glass driveway and paver replacement in Los Angeles typically runs $413 – $2,950 installed, depending on whether we’re matching a single border paver, repairing a failed edge restraint, or resetting a full section that’s heaved after a winter of rain. We stock common Mr-Glass paver profiles and glass-fused surface pavers on our trucks, and most single-paver or border repairs are done in one visit. What usually tips off a Los Angeles homeowner is a paver that suddenly sits proud of the surrounding surface by a quarter inch or more, or a glass-fused cap that’s starting to spall, leaving small glass flecks on your driveway where the surface should be smooth.
If you’re standing outside looking at a cracked Mr-Glass paver and wondering whether it’s worth chasing down a specialty supplier, the short answer: call us. We’ll match what you have, tell you the installed price before we touch anything, and you’ll know exactly who’s walking up your driveway. That’s the way Isaac Pruett has run things since day one.
Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To

Mr-Glass has produced several generations of glass-faced pavers and driveway accents over the years, and not all of them interchange. The most common lines we see in Los Angeles driveways are the Mr-Glass Lumina Series (smooth, polished glass face bonded to a concrete body) and the Mr-Glass Sandstone Series (textured glass aggregate mixed through the paver, matte finish). There’s also an older Mr-Glass border paver that shows up in a lot of mid-2000s LA builds, and that one is the trickiest to match because the color runs were short and the glass tint varied by batch.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people hit: a Lumina paver will not sit flush next to a Sandstone paver even if the dimensions match on paper. The glass cap thickness differs by about 3/16 of an inch, and the edge profile is different. If you’ve got the older border paver, we’ll need to take a quick measurement of the glass cap depth before we commit to a replacement, because two batches from the same year can look different under direct Southern California sun.
OEM Mr-Glass pavers are still available for select series, but for most discontinued lines we source quality aftermarket equivalents from Belgard and Techo-Bloc that match the color and wear characteristics. We’ll be straight with you about which route makes sense, and we’ll show you the comparison before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Glass spalling or pitting on the top surface. This is the most common failure in Los Angeles, where UV and heat cycles work on the glass-concrete bond. Once the glass cap starts separating, small flecks come off under foot or tire, and the paver will never look right again without a full replacement.
- A single paver rocking when you step on it. That means the bedding sand has washed out underneath, usually after rain found its way through a gap in the joint sand. A rocking paver will crack its neighbors if left alone, because every load transfers sideways instead of down.
- Edge pavers drifting outward into your lawn or planting bed. The edge restraint has failed. In LA’s clay-heavy soil, rain swells the ground and pushes borders out when the plastic or aluminum edging gives way. You’ll see a widening gap at the driveway edge and grass starting to creep in.
- Hairline cracks running through multiple pavers in a line. That’s almost always a base failure beneath the pavers, not a problem with the Mr-Glass product itself. Water has softened the subgrade or the base was never compacted enough, and the pavers are flexing along a stress line.
- Color fading that’s uneven or blotchy. Some fading is normal after a decade in Los Angeles sun. But when fading is patchy and concentrated, it usually means the paver’s seal was worn through or never applied correctly, and moisture is getting trapped under joints.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we charge for Mr-Glass driveway and paver work in Los Angeles, parts and labor included:
| Job Type | Typical Range |
|---|---|
| Single Mr-Glass paver replacement | $413 – $590 |
| Border paver section reset (up to 6 ft) | $590 – $1,180 |
| Edge restraint repair and re-compaction | $295 – $825 |
| Full paver driveway replacement | $8,260 – $21,240 |
The range comes down to three things: how many pavers are actually compromised once we lift the first one, whether the underlying base needs re-compaction, and which Mr-Glass series you have (discontinued colors cost more to source). Every quote is written, line-itemed, and delivered before work starts. You’ll know the paver cost, the labor, and the disposal fee, and that’s the number you’ll pay. Our workmanship on paver repair is covered for 365 days from the completion date. If it fails in that window, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a single paver is physically possible to DIY: lift the broken one, scrape the bed flat, set the new one, sweep in joint sand. The part where DIY goes wrong in Los Angeles is the diagnosis. If the base is failing under that paver, dropping in a new one just means you’ll replace it again in a year, and you’ll have spent your weekend doing it. Plus, matching a Mr-Glass color and cap thickness without seeing physical samples is a coin flip. We’ve had homeowners bring us pavers they ordered online that look right in the product photo and wrong in their driveway.
If you want to check something yourself before calling, feel the edges of the broken paver: if the edges are sharp and the break is clean, it’s probably impact or a bad paver. If the edges are worn and the surrounding pavers are shifting, your base is moving. That’s the one we need to look at. Call (213) 632-5711 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a one-paver fix or a base issue, and you can decide from there.
FAQs

With a properly compacted base and sealed joints, Mr-Glass pavers in Los Angeles typically last 15 – 25 years before surface wear becomes obvious. Glass-faced pavers on the top surface tend to lose their polish faster than textured aggregate lines, especially on west-facing driveways with full afternoon sun. Call (213) 632-5711 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your pavers are at replacement age or just need resealing.
A cracked glass-faced paver cannot be repaired to match, because the glass cap bonds to the concrete body at the factory and once that bond breaks, no adhesive or filler will hold under vehicle load. Small surface chips can sometimes be minimized with a glass-specific resin, but for any crack that runs through the paver body, replacement is the only fix that lasts. We’ll show you the options and the price difference before you decide.
A single paver swap takes under two hours, including removing the broken paver, re-bedding, and sweeping in joint sand. A border section reset or edge restraint repair is usually a half-day job. A full driveway replacement runs three to five working days depending on square footage and whether we’re removing and hauling the old base.
We stock the most common Mr-Glass Lumina and Sandstone profile pavers on our trucks for immediate replacement, along with border restraints and polymeric joint sand. For discontinued colors and older series, we source from our supplier network and usually have the right paver in hand within three to five business days. When we quote the job, you’ll know whether we have it on the truck or need to order it, with the date we expect it in.
If your Mr-Glass driveway or pavers aren’t holding up, call (213) 632-5711 for a free estimate. We’ll come out, look at what’s failing, and hand you a written price before any work starts. Know who’s coming, know what it costs, know it’s guaranteed, everything else is just noise.
