Mr-Glass Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Mr-Glass-compatible roofing parts across Los Angeles, with most replacement jobs running between $470 and $2,125 installed depending on the part and the roof’s condition. That’s the honest range, and we put it in writing before any work starts. Most homeowners discover a failed Mr-Glass roofing part the same way: a water stain on the ceiling after the first real rain of the season, or granules collecting in the gutter after a Santa Ana wind event.
We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Mr-Glass. What that means for you is we can source OEM Mr-Glass parts or quality aftermarket equivalents, and we’ll give you a straight answer on which one actually makes sense for your roof and your budget.
Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To

Mr-Glass roofing products typically fall into two categories: the glass-infused asphalt shingle line and the polycarbonate skylight and panel systems. The compatability gotcha we see most often in Los Angeles is mixing vintages. A Mr-Glass shingle from a 2014 production run will not lay flat against a 2022 run, even if the color name is identical. The granule blend and mat thickness changed, and the seam will telegraph through within a year.
How to identify what you have: pull a shingle tab gently and look for the manufacturing code printed on the underside. It’s usually a six-to-eight character alphanumeric string. For skylights and panels, measure the rough opening, not the glass itself. A half-inch discrepancy is common and it matters. If you can’t get on the roof safely, call us at (213) 632-5711 and we’ll identify it during the estimate visit. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for Mr-Glass shingles, we generally recommend OEM if your roof is under ten years old, because the color fade will be minimal. For older roofs, a quality aftermarket match is often the smarter spend.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Roofing Is Failing
- Granule loss in gutters or at downspout bases. Mr-Glass shingles shed granules more aggressively in the first two years than most brands. If you’re seeing a heavy black or gray sediment after year five, the UV-protective layer is thinning and the mat is starting to cook in Los Angeles sun.
- Curling edges on south-facing slopes. The glass content in Mr-Glass shingles reflects some heat, but the asphalt matrix still softens in triple-digit Valley summers. Curling means the shingle’s structural bond is breaking down, not just cosmetic wear.
- Water staining on ceilings after light rain. This usually points to a flashing failure at a penetration (pipe boot, vent, skylight curb), not the Mr-Glass material itself. But the shingle around it often gets blamed and replaced unnecessarily.
- Brittle, cracked shingles that snap when lifted. If a shingle cracks instead of flexing during inspection, the volatile oils in the asphalt have evaporated. It’s done. Coastal homes in Los Angeles get ten to twelve years out of a typical asphalt shingle; inland homes get eight to ten before brittleness sets in.
- Discolored patches that won’t rinse clean. Algae and lichen hold moisture against the shingle surface and accelerate granule loss. On Mr-Glass shingles specifically, the glass content doesn’t deter biological growth any more than standard architectural shingles.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Los Angeles, plan on $470 to $2,125 for a Mr-Glass roofing repair, with most targeted part replacements (a section of shingles, a skylight gasket set, a panel seam) landing in the $700 to $1,400 range installed. The spread depends on roof pitch, accessibility, whether the underlayment is salvageable, and how many layers are already up there. A full roof replacement runs $9,440 to $23,600, which includes tear-off, underlayment, flashing, and new Mr-Glass-compatible material.
- Shingle section replacement (up to 100 sq ft): $470 – $1,180
- Skylight gasket and seal replacement: $590 – $1,415
- Panel or seam repair: $470 – $2,125
- Full Mr-Glass-compatible roof replacement: $9,440 – $23,600
Every quote includes labor, materials, disposal, and a written line-item breakdown. We don’t do verbal estimates that grow on the final bill. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right within a year of completion, we return and fix it at no cost to you.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely clear debris from valleys and gutters, and you can photograph problem areas from the ground with a zoom lens. That’s it. Getting on a Los Angeles roof without a harness, proper footwear, and a second person is how homeowners end up in urgent care. We’ve seen it. Roof work involves height, pitch, and the deceptive fragility of sun-baked shingles. One wrong step on a brittle Mr-Glass shingle after a hot summer and you’re sliding.
If you’ve got a leak, the clock is working against you. Every rain event pushes water further into the sheathing. Call (213) 632-5711 and we’ll send someone out to assess it, with a written price before any work begins. No pressure, no surprises.
FAQs

In Los Angeles, expect eight to fifteen years depending on slope, shade, and how close you are to the coast. Inland valleys with full sun exposure tend toward the lower end; coastal homes with marine layer and cooler summer temps do better.
It depends on what failed. A flashing seam can usually be resealed. A cracked or brittle Mr-Glass shingle cannot be repaired in any way that will last, and patching over it just creates a lump that future shingles won’t sit flat against. Call (213) 632-5711 and we’ll tell you which category yours falls into.
Most targeted repairs take two to four hours on site, including cleanup. A full roof replacement runs three to five working days depending on size and access. We’ll give you the timeline in writing before we start.
We keep common Mr-Glass-compatible sealants, seam materials, skylight gaskets, and a range of shingle bundles in our Los Angeles inventory, plus we have direct access to OEM supply channels for exact-match materials when you need them. Along with Mr-Glass, we also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone.
Know who’s coming, know what it costs, know it’s guaranteed. Everything else is just noise.
