Therma-Tru Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Therma-Tru kitchen remodeling in Los Angeles typically runs $16,520 – $53,100 installed, depending on cabinet count, surface materials, and whether we’re pulling permits. Most homeowners call us after a door or drawer front has warped, a hinge has torn out of the frame, or a finish has blistered from years of steam and sun exposure. We match Therma-Tru components by series and size, price the work in writing before anything starts, and you’ll know exactly who is walking through the door: name, photo, and badge, per The Threshold Standard.

Here’s the reality: a kitchen remodel that touches Therma-Tru products is rarely about the whole door failing. It’s the hardware, the seal, the mounting points. The good news is most of it is serviceable. You don’t have to gut the kitchen because one door swings crooked or a drawer slide gave out.

Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

Therma-Tru’s kitchen and bath lineup includes the Classic-Craft, Fiber-Classic, and Smooth-Star series, plus the Benchmark door lines that occasionally appear in side-entry or pantry applications off the kitchen. Each series has different slab thicknesses, hinge prep patterns, and finish tolerances. That matters because a replacement door from the wrong series will sit proud or shy of the cabinet face by an eighth of an inch, and you’ll see it every single day.

How to identify what you have: open the door and look at the barrel of the hinge. Therma-Tru stamps a series code and sometimes a date on the hinge leaf or the back of the door slab near the bottom rail. If the stamp is gone, measure the door thickness with a tape, not a ruler. Fiber-Classic slabs usually run 3/4 inch. Classic-Craft runs 1 inch with a denser core. If you’re unsure, take two photos: one of the hinge, one of the door edge. We’ll match it from those. We keep OEM Therma-Tru components in stock for the most common Los Angeles installs, and for the rest we order direct through our supply chain. We will tell you if an aftermarket equivalent makes sense, and we’ll tell you when it doesn’t. Some aftermarket hinges are fine. Most aftermarket slab replacements are not, because the finish match drifts within two years of California sun exposure.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • The door no longer closes flush against the frame. This is usually hinge wear or a stripped screw hole in the cabinet box, not the Therma-Tru door itself. The fix is a hinge replacement or a drilled-and-dowelled repair, and it should not be ignored: a dropped door drags on the frame and wears the finish at the contact point.
  • Finish blistering or peeling along the bottom rail. Steam from dishwashers and sinks works its way into the slab edge if the bottom seal has worn. Los Angeles kitchens with older dishwashers see this constantly. The door can sometimes be re-finished, but if the core has swollen, replacement is the only straight answer.
  • The drawer front has pulled loose from the drawer box. This is a fastener failure. Therma-Tru drawer fronts are attached with specific screw patterns, and when someone’s overtightened them in a previous repair, the wood fibers strip. The correct fix is a re-set with fresh anchors, not more glue.
  • The soft-close mechanism has gone dead. Therma-Tru cabinets often use integrated damper slides. When they fail, the drawer slams. That’s a slide replacement, and the slide model matters. We carry the common ones on the truck in Los Angeles.
  • Visible cracking at the hinge mortise. In dry California air, wood frame cabinets expand and contract. If the hinge mortise develops a hairline crack, it will only get worse. This one you want addressed before the hinge tears out entirely and the door drops.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled kitchen with a waterfall island and wood cabinets

For a Therma-Tru kitchen remodeling project in Los Angeles, here is what the market actually charges, installed:

Scope Installed Price Range
Full kitchen remodel with Therma-Tru cabinets, counters, and backsplash $16,520 – $53,100
Small kitchen remodel (partial cabinet replacement, new counters, hardware) $10,620 – $23,600
Cabinet installation only $4,720 – $15,340
Countertop installation $2,360 – $7,670
Backsplash installation $945 – $2,950
Kitchen island installation $3,540 – $11,800

What drives the range: how many cabinets, whether we’re replacing doors and drawer fronts only or pulling entire boxes, what surface materials you choose, and whether the job requires a permit. In Los Angeles, any work that moves plumbing or electrical triggers the permit path. We pull permits, we pass inspections, and you get a written price before we start. No change orders because we missed something on the walkthrough.

Every project carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If something is not right within a year of completion, we make it right at no cost. That’s 365 days from the completion date, written plainly in the guarantee.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things: whether the hinge screws are loose, whether the bottom seal has worn away, whether the finish has blistered. That’s diagnosis, not repair. Where DIY goes wrong is when homeowners try to re-mortise a hinge, swap a door slab from a different series, or re-finish a Therma-Tru surface with a hardware-store product that fogs or streaks. Therma-Tru finishes are not off-the-shelf. The wrong coating bonds badly, and then you pay twice.

If it’s a drawer slide we can walk you through the model number over the phone. If it’s a door, a finish problem, or anything structural, let us handle it. We will quote it first, in writing. Call (213) 632-5711 and we’ll schedule the walkthrough.
