Unilock Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

A full Unilock bathroom remodel in Los Angeles typically runs between $10,620 and $33,040 installed, with most jobs landing around $18,000 to $22,000 depending on size and finish level. We stock Unilock-compatible pavers, wall units, and coping for bathroom applications and can usually start within a week or two of your written estimate. Most Los Angeles homeowners call us when they notice water staining at the paver joints, cracked or spalled units near the shower base, or efflorescence that keeps coming back no matter how many times it’s scrubbed off. If that sounds familiar, you’re in the right place.

Which Unilock Models This Applies To

A powder room with botanical wallpaper and a stone sink

In bathrooms, Unilock products show up most often in three places: shower floors and walls using Lineo Dimensional Stone or U-Cara Multi-Face Wall, accent bands and thresholds in Richcliff or Seneca Slab, and outdoor bathroom-adjacent hardscape like shower surrounds in Beacon Hill Flagstone. The compatibility gotcha most people miss: bathroom wet-area installations require units with a minimum 6,000 psi compressive strength and a water absorption rate under 5%. Not every Unilock series meets that bar. Lineo and Richcliff do. Some thinner paver lines do not, and using them in a constant-moisture environment voids the performance expectation.

To match your existing product, look for the mold code stamped on the back or side of the unit – it’s a letter-and-number string like “LD-04” or “RF-07.” A photo of that code plus a tape measure on the unit face gets us most of the way to identifying it over the phone. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for Unilock bathroom work, we install genuine Unilock units whenever they’re available. The color consistency within a series and the freeze-thaw durability matter too much in a wet Los Angeles bathroom, especially with our hard water. Aftermarket lookalikes exist, but the joint tolerances rarely line up and the color drift after two years of shower steam is noticeable.

Signs Your Unilock Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • Efflorescence that returns within weeks of cleaning. That white chalky film means water is moving through the unit, not over it. In Los Angeles bathrooms it usually traces back to failed grout joints or a pan membrane issue behind the Unilock surface, not the stone itself.
  • Hairline cracks running along the surface of the paver or wall unit. In a bathroom this is almost always a substrate problem – movement in the mortar bed or a flex point at the shower pan edge. The Unilock unit cracks because what’s under it is moving.
  • Discolored or darkened joints between units. Persistent dark joints point to trapped moisture, which in a bathroom means drainage or slope has failed. Left alone, that moisture works its way under adjacent units and starts popping them loose.
  • Loose or hollow-sounding units when you tap them. A solid Unilock install sounds dead under a knuckle tap. A hollow thock means the mortar bond has let go. That unit is no longer shedding water properly and the ones around it are next.
  • Musty smell that lingers even after deep cleaning. This is the one we hear about most from homeowners in the Valley and Mid-Wilshire – moisture trapped behind or beneath the Unilock surface is growing mold. It’s not a cleaning problem at that point; it’s a drainage or waterproofing problem.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled hall bathroom with patterned floor tile and painted walls

A Unilock bathroom remodel in Los Angeles lands between $10,620 and $33,040 installed. Here’s what drives the spread:

Scope Typical installed range
Shower floor and walls only (Unilock Lineo or similar) $10,620 – $16,520
Shower plus bathroom floor and accent wall $16,520 – $23,600
Full bathroom – shower, floor, vanity surround, wainscot $23,600 – $33,040

Every quote is a written, line-item price delivered before we start – no verbal ballpark that grows into a different final bill. Labor includes demolition and disposal of the failed surface, substrate repair, waterproofing under the Unilock install, and the units themselves. You’ll know the part cost, the labor cost, and the exact scope before a single tool comes off the truck.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely do two things on your own: photograph the mold code and any visible cracking, and check whether adjacent units sound hollow or solid. That’s useful information when you call. What we’d steer you away from is pulling loose Unilock units yourself – in a bathroom, what’s behind them is a waterproofing assembly, and once you break that seal you’ve turned a surface repair into a water-damage problem. The danger isn’t theatrical; it’s just expensive to fix wrong. If you can see moisture or smell mildew, the time to call is now, not after the grout fails completely. Call (213) 632-5711 and we’ll get someone out to look at it.
